2017 Holiday Flotilla at Wrightsville Beach, NC


Get into the coastal holiday spirit with a weekend filled with fun down at Wrightsville Beach, NC during the 34th Holiday Flotilla.  Festivities for the 2017 Holiday Flotilla begin Friday November 24 at 5:30pm down at the Wrightsville Beach Town Hall with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Santa.  At 7:30, folks can head over to the Blockade Runner and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a fully stocked cash bar, silent auction, and dance the night away to live music.  The Embers featuring Craig Woolard will be performing to get people in the holiday spirit!  Tickets cost $35 per person and can be purchased here.  

Festivities continue Saturday with The Festival in the Park, running from 10am - 4pm.  The festival has an area for children, including several inflatable slides and bounce houses, a coloring contest, and the Arab Choo Choo, festival food, and more.  The Festival will also feature over 100 art and craft vendors and an antique car show!  

The popular boat parade begins at 6pm on November 25, and will follow with a firework show!  The length of the boat parade will vary deepening on the number of boats entered.  There are 8 prize categories that boats will compete in, ranging from Best in Show to Best Costume and Crew Spirit.  There are a number of vantage points along the parade route where onlookers can watch the boat parade.  The points include Banks Channel, the two South Harbor Island mini parks, or the west side of Waynick Blvd.  Judges will be located at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort.    

This year’s flotilla has an extra special theme honoring one of Flotilla’s late consecutive winner and long time supporter, Paula Sturdy.  The boat with the best Wrightsville Beach theme will be awarded with the Paula Sturdy Award, $1,000.

Run the Trick or Trot 5K to Support the Preservation of Historic Wilmington Property

Go to Trick or Trot on Wilmington property.Get a jump on celebrating Halloween on Wilmington property at Greenfield Lake Park this Saturday, October 28th. Both kids and adults living in Wilmington are invited to participate in the Trick or Trot for Preservation. Dress up in your Halloween best and come out for the 5K or the one-mile Candy Dash. The day is meant to be lighthearted and fun, so there are about 60 prizes to be won. Both fast runners and creative costumes can take home a prize.

The cost of pre-registering for the 5K is $25 for kids and team members and $30 for adults. If you’re just doing the one-mile Candy Dash, the registration fee is just $15. Children five and younger run for free with a paid adult. You can also register on race day. Race day registrants pay $30 for kids and $35 for adults. If you end up registering on the day of the race, be sure to arrive at the park by 8:15 a.m. The race starts at 9 a.m.

At the end of the race, all participants are invited to enjoy candy, donuts from RISE Biscuits and Donuts, and Java House coffee.

Everyone Living in Wilmington Can Enjoy the Tar Heels Tour Program

Proceeds from the race go to support Tar Heels Go Walking and programs to preserve historic Wilmington property. The Tar Heels walking tour helps bring local history to life. Since it was founded in 2009, over 20,000 kids, parents, and teachers have learned about Wilmington history and city development.

Even if you’re not interested in running, there are other ways to support Wilmington preservation. Volunteer to help on race day or sign up as a sponsor.
